Sinan The Architect :: The Suleymaniye Complex, Damascus

It was originally composed of a mosque, a refection hall, a guesthouse and a kervansaray; a medrese and arasta (a row or street of specialised shops) having been later added by some other architect. Enclosed within high walls, it is symmetrically planned around a large courtyard. The refection hall has its own service courtyard. The complex was built to serve as a stage or stopover station on the way to Mecca.
