At a distance of 3 km on the Nevsehir-Avanos road is a side road. To the north of this road are Killik and Kaya Harmani and to the south Baglidere Valley which stretches as far as Uchisar.
In the valleys are picturesque rockies. The Avanos-Urgup road passes through Dervent Valley. Here is also called the Fairy Chimneys Valley.
The name of this village on the Kizilirmak bank during the Roman times was Venessa. We come here across vestiges dating back to the times of Byzance, Seljuks and Ottomans.
Avanos where one finds entertainment centers, pottery, wine industry, brodery and tapestry are highly evolved. At Ozkonak, at a distance of 15 km from Avanos, are many lodgings and grottoes.
At the place called "Saray" (Palace) we find the rest of a monastery. Here is also an underground village.
