This place is at a distance of 4 km from Avanos and 5 km of Cavusin. The most interesting fairy chimneys are to be found here. Zelve consists of sorts of twin breaks which stretch parallel to each other in a narrow and deep valley. Zelve had to be evacuated in 1950 due to risk of erosion.
On the road which leads from Cavusin to Avanos, at the first kilometer one crosses a narrow passage called Akgedik. The slope on the right hand side of the road facing Aktepe presents natural riches. Then we have the places called Pasabagi and Kesisler Valley where one finds plenty of fairy chimneys. The grotto with three chimneys at Pasabagi had been made use of as a cell by a monk by the name of Simeon.
The christians had to cut in rocks to take refuge in. The monasteries and the churches erected during the iconoclastic period are here, the largest among which are Uzumlu Church and Geyikli Church. The small minaret transformed from a church belfry indicates that this place was inhabited by the moslem after the Christians.
