It is situated at a distance of 15 km from Nevsehir and 5 km from Urgup. The castle to which a flight of stairs which rise as far as the summit give access erected in the middle of the village overlooks a rich panorama.
An underground passage links the castle with Isa Kalesi which rises in the valley at a distance of some hundred yards. It served as sanctuary to the Christians. At the place called Karsimahalle of the town Ortahisar, the village church with two pillars with barrel-vault and three apses called "Cambazli" is in a very good state and comprises frescoes of which the scenes representing the Annunciation and the Visitation are well preserved. To the north surrounded by orchards is the chapel "Nicetos", the paintings of which are preserved in a good state.
We come across the churches of St. Paul and St. Peter at Iskendere, of St. Theodorus to the southeast and another group of four at Balkan Deresi. To the south of Ortahisar is a church barrel-vaulted and singlenaved with a small but interesting ceiling.
